Hostel - a balcony on the Roman Baths
|
|||||
Situated in a historic piazza next to the "Pescheria", the fish market where local fishermen sell the previous night's catch, a market in arabic style in the historical centre of Catania. The cathedral ("il Duomo") is just round the corner and the ruins of the "roman baths dell'Indirizzo", and the church of the same name are right opposite the hostel.
The building in which the hostel
dates back to the early 1800's and the rooms have "royal" vaulted
ceilings and antique decorated tiled floors.
The ground floor, with its
"royal" vaulted ceilings and lava-block columns, is an area
for relaxing with ethnic music, a dining area with a fully equipped kitchen
where the guests can cook their own food.
In another section of the
building on the ground floor there is a typical restaurant, an exciting
cocktail bar, and underground we host a unique wine bar
famous for having a high quality service, from the cellar a
door leads into a natural lavic cave through which a stream from the l'Amenano flows.
The restaurant, bar, and wine bar are open to the locals too and the djset lounge and concerts are a must for Catania. In the summer time the tables are in the square and it seems that the time stops with the breeze of the desert or the passage of the train, the music goes on.
The hostel is open 24
hours. There is no curfew or lock-out, and usually the party starts and
ends here. The restaurant is open for lunch from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm and for dinner
from 8.30 pm to 1.00 am It's easy to get from the Hostel to the sea, the volcano Etna: and the impressive Coast of the Cyclops. What's more, it's near the station, the airport and sea ports, and the lively night-life will be a pleasant surprise. |
